A major part of the garden club's contributions include civic beautification projects, making public buildings more inviting with the addition of landscaping elements. Tour some of the sites to see the hard work our members have contributed along with the delightful results!

The Clark Memorial Library, dedicated in 1936 by the Bethany Library Association, was adorned with an abundance of newly planted perennials and shrubs, both transplanted and maintained by the garden club.

The Veteran's Memorial Park, formerly the Bethany West property, received a welcoming entrance from the garden club, complete with shrubbery and planted flower tubs. Plants were also added by the garden club to the entrance of the newly renovated Lakeview Lodge. In addition, the Bethany Garden Club made a financial contribution on behalf of the footbridge built by the Bethany Veterans of Foreign Wars, dedicated in 2001.

In a program funded in part from a grant awarded to the garden club (the PETALS program- Protect the Environment Through Learning, Action, and Service, co-sponsored by the National Garden Club Inc. and the Shell Oil Company), a youth gardening program was put into place last year. In collaboration with educators, the greenhouse addition to the Bethany Community School has served as a resource for children to learn more about gardening and conservation of our natural resources.

Each year, the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, CT gets a Christams face lift from the garden club, decorating the entrance with festive greenery and lights to help make the holidays a little more enjoyable for its visiting residents. The Ronald McDonald House is part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities" and provides a haven for the families of children undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in that particular town or city.

The "Town Hall Triangle" at the entrance of the Bethany Town Hall on Peck Hill Road was planted with a number of perenials, shrubs and annuals- look for a Spring bouquet of flowering bulbs in April and May, after a long winter of cold and snowy weather!

The Bethany Center Schoolhouse, a one room schoolhouse built in 1834 was relocated to the Bethany Community School grounds. The Bethany Garden Club adds to the historical beauty of this building by the addition of charming flora.

The headquarters for the Bethany Historical Society, the Stanley Downs Memorial Building , also known as the Old Town Hall, was built in 1914 and was the original Bethany Town Hall. In a grant awared to the garden club, (the PETALS program- Protect the Environment Through Learning, Action, and Service, co-sponsored by the National Garden Club Inc. and the Shell Oil Company), we provided landscaping to the historical society. A visit to the society promises to be both an educational and picturesque experience!
